Department of Veterinary Microbiology

Department of Veterinary Microbiology

1.About

This department is operative since inception of the college in 1930. Initially the department was designated as Bacteriology and Pathology. With the formation of Rajendra Agricultural University in the year 1972, it was redesignated as Department of Veterinary Microbiology The M.V. Sc course was initiated in 1960 and our first batch passed out in 1962. Till date 62 M.V.Sc. and one Ph.D Scholar has been awarded degree in this discipline. The thrust area of research includes pathogenic bacteria, virus and fungi. The Department is engaged in applied research for diagnosis of infectious diseases of animals. The department has been active in the research on Foot and Mouth Disease, New Castle disease, Infectious Bursal Disease, Peste des petits Ruminant, Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis, Mastitis, Mycotic mastitis and abortion, Blue tongue, rotavirus, epidemiology of zoonotic diseases, monitoring and surveillance of infectious diseases, vaccinology and immune response to infectio n, and antimicrobial resistance.
